Gadchiroli: Heavy rainfall in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Thursday evening caused major disruptions in transportation across several areas. The downpour affected towns like Desaiganj, Kurkheda, Wadsa, Armori, Gadchiroli, and Chamorshi. In some talukas, electricity supply has been cut off since the afternoon.
Earlier in the day, the Regional Meteorological Department in Nagpur had issued a weather alert. It warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds at speeds of 40–50 km/h in parts of Chandrapur, Yavatmal, and Wardha, as well as at isolated locations in Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Washim, and Amravati. The heavy rain has caused inconvenience to locals and halted normal daily activities in many parts of the district.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that a low-pressure area has developed in the east-central Arabian Sea near the South Konkan and Goa coasts. This system is expected to intensify over the next 36 hours and move northward. As a result, an orange alert has been issued for the entire Konkan coast, while Raigad and Ratnagiri districts are under a red alert.
Wind speeds may reach 35–40 km/h, and in some places, gusts could go up to 60 km/h. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in affected areas and has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea along the Maharashtra and Gujarat coasts for the next 2–4 days.
