According to IMD, cool winds and cloudy skies are expected to continue till May 19. The department predicted that the next 3–4 days could bring some respite from the heat in Delhi-NCR.

Storm and rain alert in hilly states

Amid rising heat in the plains, the hilly regions of North India are expected to see stormy weather. The IMD has forecast thunder, lightning, rain, and strong winds in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from May 18 to May 21.

Winds could blow at 30 to 50 km/h in these areas. Uttar Pradesh may also experience similar conditions during this time.

Northwestern plains face scorching heat

The plains of North India, including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Western Uttar Pradesh, are battling severe heat and hot winds. However, changes in the weather are expected in some of these areas soon.

In Punjab and Haryana, strong winds and thunderstorms are likely between May 16 and May 21. Western Rajasthan could see dust storms from May 15 to 18, while Eastern Rajasthan may get rain and thunderstorms from May 15 to 18.

Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh may face dust storms on May 16 and 17, with wind speeds reaching 30 km/h.

Stormy weather in East and Central India

The Eastern and Central regions of India are also on alert. In the next four days, there is a forecast of thunderstorms, lightning, and rain, with winds blowing at 30–50 km/h in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim.

In Northeast India, similar conditions are expected to continue for the next four days, bringing unstable weather to the region.

Despite expected rainfall in some areas, temperatures are likely to increase. In Northwest India, including parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana, maximum temperatures may rise by 2–3°C over the next three days.

In Madhya Pradesh, the maximum temperature is also expected to rise by 2–3°C in the coming four days.
