New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reiterated his government’s steadfast commitment to the welfare of the poor, describing the past decade as one of “transformative and inclusive governance”. The PM’s assertion comes in the wake of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) completing 11 uninterrupted years in office.
In a post on X, PM Modi said the BJP-led NDA government had taken “pathbreaking steps” to uplift millions from poverty by prioritising empowerment, infrastructure, and inclusion. He emphasised that over 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty during this period. He attributed the success to a governance model rooted in compassion and transparency.
‘Inclusive and self-reliant India’
“The NDA remains committed to building an inclusive and self-reliant India, where every citizen has the opportunity to live with dignity,” he said.
The PM in a series of posts also highlighted the government’s flagship welfare schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana and Ayushman Bharat. He said that these initiatives have expanded access to housing, clean cooking fuel, banking, and healthcare, especially for marginalised communities.
He also talked about the role of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), digital inclusion, and investments in rural infrastructure in ensuring last-mile delivery of government services. “It is due to these efforts that the benefits are reaching the poorest of the poor, without leakages,” the Prime Minister added.
Major govt schemes
Among the cornerstone programmes of the government is the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), a food security scheme initially launched during the Covid-19 pandemic. Now extended until 2029, the scheme provides free food grains to over 81 crore beneficiaries, including Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Priority Household (PHH) groups identified under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
The PM on Wednesday also chaired a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers, urging them to set ambitious goals and highlight the government’s achievements through mass outreach campaigns.
