Raipur: There was a commotion at Raipur’s Swami Vivekananda Airport on Wednesday afternoon after an IndiGo flight arriving from Delhi faced a technical issue. The gate of the aircraft did not open for about 40 minutes after landing, leaving hundreds of passengers, including several VIPs, stuck inside the plane.
The flight landed safely at 2.25 pm. However, due to a technical fault, the gate remained locked and passengers had to remain seated. On board were former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, MLA Chaturi Nand and Raipur mayor Meenal Chaubey, among others.
Mayor Meenal Chaubey later said that although the landing was smooth, the flight crew did not receive the signal from the pilot to open the gate.
A system fault meant the signal required to unlock the door was not appearing on the display screen. As a result, the crew waited for confirmation before taking any action.
While the cooling system and water supply remained functional and passengers were not physically uncomfortable, some did express nervousness.
Engineers at Raipur airport worked quickly to resolve the issue. After around 40 minutes, they managed to unlock the gate, and all passengers exited safely.
So far, IndiGo has not released any official statement about the incident. Airport authorities have confirmed that the issue was due to a technical error in the aircraft’s system, which prevented the door-opening signal from being transmitted.
