From the US to France: 9 countries that allow Indian driving licence

New Delhi: Travelling to a new country, and you love to drive? But the problem is whether you are allowed your Indian driving licence or not. Did you know many countries allow Indian driving licence? In this article, we list countries where you can drive on a foreign land with an Indian driving licence.

An Indian driving licence is accepted in many countries, which allows Indian citizens to drive abroad without needing an International Driving Permit (IDP). However, the rules about how long an Indian driving licence is valid and what is required can differ from one country to another.

In the USA, there are most states where Indian drivers can operate rented cars with their Indian driving licences for up to one year. Your license must be valid and in English. You must also have your I-94 form showing the date you entered the USA.

New Zealand

New Zealand allows Indian driving licences, which are valid for one year from entry into the country. One can drive legally with an Indian driving licence. To drive, you must be at least 21 years old. Your driving license must be in English, or you must bring an authorised translated copy from the New Zealand Transport Agency.

Australia

Australia is another country where your Indian driver’s licence is accepted. In northern areas of the country, Indian driving licences are valid for three months only. However, New South Wales, South Australia, and the Australian Capital Territory accept Indian driving licences for over a year.

Malaysia

Want to drive on Malaysian roads and wonder if your driving licence is valid? Then, yes, an Indian driving licence is accepted in this country. Remember that the licence should be in English or Malay.

Germany

Indian drivers can use their driving licences to drive in Germany for up to six months. However, it is recommended that they have a German translation of their licence and an international driving permit with them.

Switzerland

An Indian is allowed to legally drive legally for one year after entering the nation with a valid Indian licence. The licence has to be in English.

Singapore

Indian driving licences are valid in Singapore for up to 12 months. You must be at least 18 years old to drive. Your licence needs to be in English, or you must have it translated.

United Kingdom

In England, Wales and Scotland, Indian driving licences are valid for up to one year. But, the UK allows drivers with Indian driving licences to drive only certain types of vehicles.

France

You can drive in France using an Indian driving licence for up to 1 year. However, you need to translate your licence into French.
