Khatima: Bhajan Singh Rana, an auto-rickshaw driver, garnered headlines when he played a crucial role in saving Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s life. On the night of January 16, Saif was attacked by an intruder and severely injured at his Mumbai home. It was Bhajan who helped Saif to reach hospital on time.

Bhajan, originally from Mohanpur village in Khatima, Uttarakhand, was the brave driver who rushed Saif to the hospital. After this incident, Bhajan gained overnight fame and is now receiving accolades from everyone. This humble villager from Khatima, Uttarakhand, left his village 20 years ago in search of employment.

Bhajan’s family still lives in the village

Rana has been living in Mumbai for 20 years, driving an auto-rickshaw to support his family who still reside in Mohanpur. His family includes his mother Kusumwati, wife Ragini Devi, younger brother Ashok Singh and his daughter Sheetal and son Mohit, and other siblings with their families. Bhajan’s father, Nandram Singh, passed away three years ago. Despite leaving the village two decades ago due to poverty, Bhajan’s family continues to live in the village.

Ashok Singh, Bhajan’s younger brother, shared that Bhajan moved to Mumbai in 2004 after completing his 10th standard, in search of employment. His journey led him to drive an auto-rickshaw, while his son Mohit is currently working in Himachal Pradesh after studying until the 11th standard.

Matter of pride for the co-villagers

Recalling the attack, Bhajan narrated how he did not recognize Saif initially and thought he was just another injured person in need of help. He only realized who he was after they reached the hospital. The incident has brought pride to Mohanpur village, with many locals reaching out to meet Bhajan’s family. Jadopur Gram Panchayat Administrator Rajiv Singh noted that this act of bravery is a matter of pride for the entire area.

Recently, Saif Ali Khan met Bhajan Singh Rana to personally thank him for his courage. Saif, joined by his mother Sharmila Tagore, expressed heartfelt gratitude and assured Rana of his support. A photo on social media shows Saif and Rana in the hospital, with Saif smiling warmly.

After meeting Saif in the hospital, Bhajan shared his joy with PTI, saying, “I met Saif Ali Khan in the hospital. He thanked me for helping him reach the hospital and praised me. I received blessings from Saif Ali Khan and his family.” Bhajan also expressed his admiration for Saif’s mother, Sharmila Tagore, who assured him of her support whenever needed.
