New Delhi: Four children, aged between 2 and 7, tragically died from suffocation after becoming trapped inside a parked car while playing in Amreli district, Gujarat, police reported on Monday. The incident occurred in Randhiya village on Saturday when the children’s parents had left for work on a farm owned by Bharat Mandani around 7:30 a.m., leaving their seven children at home, Times of India reported.

According to authorities, four of the children entered the car, which was parked near their house. When the parents and the car owner returned later that evening, they found the children unresponsive inside the vehicle. An accidental death case has been filed at the Amreli (taluka) police station and an investigation is ongoing to determine further details.

The trapped children were identified as Niyati (8), Vandana (4), Akshay (4), Krishna (7), and Shivansh (8). While Shivansh survived, the others succumbed to suffocation at the scene. Senior police officer Mangal Singh Rawat said that initial investigations suggest the cause of death was suffocation. Neighbours have expressed concerns that the incident resulted from the negligence of the car’s owner and the police said that they would look into potential charges.
