New Delhi: On May 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the family of Shubham Dwivedi. He was a businessman from Kanpur who lost his life in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 in which 26 civilians were killed. PM Modi assured his family that the fight against terrorism is still going on.
The emotional meeting took place at Chakeri airport following PM Modi’s arrival in Kanpur from Bihar for a day-long visit. He met with Aishanya, Shubham’s wife, and said the entire country and the government are with the family.
On February 12 this year, Shubham, a 31-year-old businessman married Aishanya and went to Pahalgam’s Baisaran valley to spend a quality vacation when tragedy struck. Earlier, Aishanya had said the terrorists asked her husband his religion before fatally shooting him point-blank.
Aishanya recounted her meeting with PM Modi and said that he was extremely sad about the Pahalgam massacre and spoke to them like a family member. She said that PM Modi assured the family of another meeting.
She told the reporters, “It was a very emotional meeting. The PM was himself very, very sad about the Pahalgam killings. He said that the entire nation and the government are standing with us. PM Modi said the fight against terrorism has not ended.”
As Shubham’s father broke down, PM Modi placed a hand on his shoulder and consoled him. Sanjay Dwivedi was quoted by PTI as saying, “The PM spoke to us just like a guardian. Like us, he too got emotional and assured us of his government’s full support. We also praised the manner in which India retaliated to the Pahalgam killings with Operation Sindoor.”
On May 7, India began Operation Sindoor in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack. During the operation, Indian Armed Forces destroyed nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Also, India targeted several important military sites in Pakistan as Islamabad launched drone strikes on civilian areas along the border.
