Mumbai: Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has questioned actor Dino Morea in connection with the Rs 65 crore scam related to the desilting of the Mithi River. The interrogation is still underway. Dino Morea was summoned to the EOW office at 11 am on Monday.
In the ongoing investigation, the prime accused, Ketan Kadam, has already been arrested. Kadam allegedly acted as an intermediary in the scam.
Preliminary investigations by the EOW revealed several phone calls between Dino Morea’s brother, Santino Morea, and Ketan Kadam. The content of these calls is currently under scrutiny. According to police sources, Dino Morea’s name surfaced during the examination of call records and financial transactions related to the accused.
The purpose of questioning the actor is to determine whether he had any direct or indirect involvement in the alleged financial dealings.
The scam involves accusations of large-scale financial irregularities in the rental of machines and dredging equipment leased to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the river-cleaning project.
The EOW alleges that Ketan Kadam and co-accused Jay Joshi purchased machines from Kochi-based company Matprop Technical Services Pvt Ltd. and leased them to the BMC at highly inflated rates.
Investigators suspect that the entire scheme was orchestrated in collusion with officials from the BMC’s Storm Water Drain (SWD) department and executives from Matprop.
