Drones not intercepted as did not want to disclose location: Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif gives bizarre statement once again

New Delhi: Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif is known for grabbing headlines with bizarre statements and he has done so once again. The minister, on May 9, contradicted the claims of the Pakistan Army that it took down Indian drones. He was addressing the Pakistan Parliament when he said that drones were not intercepted because they did not want to disclose to India the location of the air defence of the country. Yes, he really said that.

He said, “The drone attack was mounted to detect our locations. It’s a technical thing that I can’t explain. We didn’t intercept the drones, so that the location of our aerial defence units won’t get leaked.” The remark quickly became viral on social media, with many people poking fun at the statement and at how casually he spoke about such a serious matter. Earlier, India confirmed that it targeted Pakistan’s air defence units across several cities, and destroyed Lahore’s air defence system. India reportedly used Harpy kamikaze drones developed by Israel to attack Pakistan.

Not the first time

This is not the first time that Khawaja Asif has made a bizarre statement. He earlier told Sky News during an interview that Pakistan had been sponsoring terrorism for almost 30 years. He claimed it was done due to the request of the US and the UK, but those countries have never supported his statement.

Khawaja Asif became the talk of the town after his appearance on CNN. He tried to spread fake news about the ‘Operation Sindoor’ of the Indian Armed Forces but was caught red-handed. While speaking with the CNN, he claimed that Pakistan downed five fighter jets of India. However, when CNN Becky Anderson asked for proof, Asif gave a strange reply. He said, “It’s all over Indian social media.” The anchor replied, “I’m sorry, we didn’t ask you here to talk about social media content.”

In other news, Vinay Kwatra, Indian Ambassador to the US schooled a CNN anchor during a live interview after the latter referred to Kashmir as Indian-Administered. Kwatra told BBC anchor Wolf Blitzer, “Let me correct you. Jammu and Kashmir are integral parts of India. Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) is the only issue to be resolved with Pakistan.”
