New Delhi: On what would have been Lieutenant Vinay Narwal’s 27th birthday, his wife, Himanshi Narwal, urged the country to choose peace and unity over hatred. The Indian Navy officer was one of the 26 victims of the brutal terrorist attack in Baisaran near Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22.
Addressing the media on Thursday, Himanshi, a PhD scholar from Gurugram, said, “I just want the whole country to pray for him. Wherever he is, may he be healthy and at peace.” Her voice broke as she appealed for restraint, emphasising that their grief should not turn into hatred for any community. “We don’t want anyone to go against Muslims or Kashmiris. We seek peace, only peace. Of course, we want justice,” she added.
Blood camp in Karnal
To mark Vinay’s birth anniversary, a blood donation camp was held in Haryana’s Karnal, organised by the National Integrated Forum of Artists and Activists. The event saw emotional moments as Himanshi and Vinay’s mother wept during the tribute ceremony.
Speakers at the event remembered Narwal as a devoted officer who served his country with honour. Drawing a contrast between the violence of the Pahalgam attack and the lifesaving act of donating blood, one speaker remarked, “While terrorists spilled the blood of innocents, this camp will help save lives.”
Karnal BJP MLA Jagmohan Anand was also present at the tribute.
Honeymoon turns into tragedy
Vinay and Himanshi had been married for just over a week when they visited Pahalgam for their honeymoon. The young officer was shot dead at close range during the terror attack, leaving behind a grieving family and a nation in mourning.
