Diwali jobs boost: Festive season witnesses 20% job surge in key sectors, report

New Delhi: A total of 2.16 lakh jobs have been generated this festive season compared to 1.8 lakh jobs last year. As per a report by apna.co, jobs and professional networking platform, the festive season witnesses a significant rise in hiring across sectors of logistics, e-commerce, retail, and hospitality. Among the sectors, the highest growth was witnessed in logistics and operations, with a 70 per cent rise in job postings, followed by Retail and e-commerce with a 30 per cent rise, and the restaurant and hospitality sector grew by 25 per cent.

The festive market was looking to rebound after a slowdown in consumer spending during the summer and election periods and companies set a target to drive sales beyond last year’s numbers. To meet rising demand, companies like Rapido, Delhivery, Ekart have generated over 30,000 openings for roles such as Warehouse Managers, Logistics Associates, Inventory Managers, and Delivery Drivers.

Which sectors created most jobs during Diwali?

The retail and e-commerce sector has posted 18,000 roles including Category Growth Managers, Sales Associates, and Customer Support Managers. In hospitality, 14,000 jobs have been posted for positions like Restaurant Managers, Front Office Staff, and Administrative Personnel. The food delivery platforms like Swiggy and Zomato have also posted for various roles to keep pace with demand.

Diwali jobs: Tier 1 vs Tier 2, 3 cities

The hiring trend is not limited to tier-1 cities like Bangalore, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad which have witnessed a 20 per cent increase in job postings, the tier 2 and 2 cities are also experiencing a significant rise in job opportunities. Cities like Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Surat, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Indore, Kanpur, Chandigarh, Patna, Coimbatore, and Jaipur have witnessed a record 25 per cent surge in job postings, as per report. Factors like increasing urbanization, the expansion of malls and quick-service restaurants, and improved consumer spending are driving this growth.
