New Delhi: A vacation to Mussoorie turned into a nightmare for a family from Delhi, after a 44-year old man, Kamal Kishore, died en route to the hospital due to severe traffic congestion in the tourist town. The man was travelling with his family.
Ambulance delayed; traffic gridlock proves fatal
Kishore, staying in an apartment on Motilal Nehru Road, suddenly fell ill. His family decided to take him to the nearby Landour Community Hospital. They initially dialed the 108 emergency service for an ambulance but were told it would take at least half an hour to arrive from Dehradun, India Today reported.
The roads were choked by an overwhelming influx of tourists and hence the family was unable to get medical help in time. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead on arrival. His grieving family has expressed shock and anguish over this incident. They have pointed to the lack of swift emergency access, which cost him his life.
The family had also tried to transport Kishore themselves. however, the congestion on Mussoorie’s narrow roads made it very difficult. Local police acknowledged the worsening traffic situation. Police are reviewing the traffic situation in the hill town and hope to find some solution to the regular snarls soon.
Vacation ends in tragedy
“We came here for a vacation, but we’re now returning with a body. The administration and tourism department must learn from this incident to ensure no other family has to suffer the way we did,” Arjun Kapoor, the deceased’s nephew, said.
Mussoorie Circle Officer Manoj Aswal confirmed the incident and said that the police officials rushed to the scene and attempted CPR. He has also urged the public to call 112 in case of any assistance and speedy service would be assured.
