Dehradun: The Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway project, which aims to ease the traffic congestion on Dehradun-Mussoorie Road, is in full swing as the state government expects a sharp growth in the arrival of tourists to Mussoorie after the completion of the first phase of the Dehradun-Delhi expressway project.

As things stand today, it is a difficult challenge for the administration to ensure smooth movement of vehicles on Dehradun-Mussoorie Road due to traffic congestion, particularly during weekends. Besides, the government also wants the tourists to prefer the services of the proposed 5.5-km-long ropeway project to reach Mussoorie.

Tourists may not face traffic congestion on Dehradun-Mussoorie Road

It will help the tourists to avoid facing traffic congestion on the Dehradun-Mussoorie Road. Moreover, it will also reduce the pollution level in Mussoorie city, which is referred to as the queen of the hills. If tourists prefer to go to Mussoorie by using the ropeways, it means there will be no need for more parking spaces for the vehicles.

Fast pace of work on the Lower Terminal Point in Purukul village of Dehradun

The Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway project, which is known as the aerial passenger ropeway system, will provide its services to the tourists from Dehradun’s Purkul village to Library Chowk in Mussoorie city. The work on the Lower Terminal Point (LTP) is currently progressing with fast speed at Purkul village in Dehradun. The officers, who are associated with the construction of the ropeway, hope that this project will be ready to provide its services by the end of the year 2026.

State government’s special focus on availability of basic facilities for tourists

The government’s special focus is on the availability of the proper facilities like boarding, deboarding, parking space for at least 1500 vehicles, the waiting areas, ticket counters, staff accommodations, and other utility areas at the Lower Terminal Point (LTP) in Purukul village. The government has perhaps realized that the tourists will avail ropeway services only after the availability of basic facilities.

The journey time between two cities will be reduced

Similarly, the upper terminal point at the Library Chowk will have the waiting areas, boarding/deboarding facilities, ticket counters and other utility services. After the completion of Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway project, the journey time between the two cities will be reduced to about 15 minutes while it currently takes around 1.30 hours.
