Dehradun gangrape: Fast-Track special court to hear case, police file charge-sheet

Dehradun: Dehradun police have filed its charge-sheet against the five accused persons in connection with the ISBT gangrape case in the special court. The police have recorded the statement of 35 witnesses during the course of its investigation of the case. The case will be in fast-track special court to expedite the trials.

A minor girl was allegedly gangraped inside a bus on the premises of ISBT on the intervening night of August 12 and 13. Later, Dehradun police registered a case on August 18 on the basis of a complaint filed by a member of the Child Welfare Committee. The Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted to solve this case, soon swung into action and arrested five persons who are allegedly involved in this case.

According to a press release, issued by the Dehradun police, the chargesheet, submitted in the court, contains 250 pages. The police claimed that SIT, which investigated this case, collected evidence to prove the involvement of the arrested accused persons in this case.

SIT collected evidences from different places

On August 20, The SIT went to Delhi and tried to collect evidence from different places, including Kashmiri Gate bus station and its adjacent areas. The minor girl had reached Dehradun by a bus from Delhi. So, the police also examined the CCTV cameras, installed at different places, on Delhi-Dehradun Road, to collect evidence. Meanwhile, the victim’s statement was recorded before the court.

Police got the custody remand of the arrested persons

On August 23, police got the custody remand of the arrested persons and collected evidence required for the proper investigation of the case. Police also received the preliminary and supplementary medical reports. The evidence collected by the SIT was also sent to the central forensic laboratory, Chandigarh.

Over the past few years, the rise in crime against women in Uttarakhand is a growing concern. Besides, this state has also seen a sharp rise in cases of abduction, dowry deaths, and outraging the modesty of women.
