Craziest collapse ever? From 52/2 to 53/10, Western Australia falter against Tasmania

New Delhi: Western Australia lost 8 wickets for just 1 in a batting collapse for the ages. The three-time defending champions scored 52-2 but were bundled out 53 runs in 20.1 overs on a green and bouncy pitch in Perth.

The one run they scored came from a wide, with batters from number five to 10 dismissed for a duck. Beau Webster picked up 6 wickets and gave away just 17 runs. It was the second-lowest score in the history of the One-Day Cup. Tasmania easily chased down the target in just 8.3 overs and won the match by 7 wickets.

Western Australia’s won three back-to-back titles but their bid for the fourth consecutive trophy hangs by a thread as they need to beat Victoria, South Australia and Queensland in their three remaining matches. They also have to rely on the results of other teams to secure a spot in the top two.

WA made a decent start despite losing the wicket of Aaron Hardie early in the innings. Bancroft and D’Arcy Short batted well together and stitched a partnership to help the team to 45/1 but Webster dismissed Short.

After that, Webster got another wicket and removed Cameron Bancroft and Billy Stanlake dismissed Josh Inglis on 1 run. Ashton Turner, Cooper Conolly, Hilton Cartwright, Ashton Agar, Jhye Richardson and Joel Paris all got out on a duck. Tasmania won their first match of the season, after a loss and a no-result in their first two matches.
