New Delhi: The Congress party is reportedly said to ask all the opposition parties to seek for a special Parliament session to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and understand the measures the government is planning to take for future.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the Congress is going to draft a letter once it gets the support from other leaders of opposition parties. It will be sent to the Parliament on Sunday evening or Monday by the latest, as per a source privy to the development.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, declared that the opposition will support the central government over its actions on the matter related to terrorism.

Independent Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Sunday requested political parties to urge the government to convene a special session of Parliament as early as possible in May in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack.

“On 25th of April, I suggested that a special session of Parliament be convened to show the nation’s unity in this hour of grief,” Sibal said.

“I request all political parties to urge the government to convene such a session as early as possible in May,” he added.

The demand for a special Parliament session comes after an all-party meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday (April 24). The opposition parties raised questions over the security lapse and the delayed response to the incident.

Sources said that the central government, during the meeting, admitted to the lapse.

“If nothing had gone wrong, why would we be sitting here? There have been lapses somewhere that we have to find out and we want to fix them for the future,” a top leader from the government was quoted as saying in the meeting.

The Pahalgam terror attack claimed the lives of 26 people, most of them were tourists.
