‘Coca-cola from tap’: Swati Maliwal shares video of dirty water in Delhi’s Dwarka

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is preparing for Delhi assembly elections, with former Chief Minister and party convener Arvind Kejriwal actively presenting the party’s work across the city. As he engages with the public and highlights government projects, a surprising development has emerged within AAP itself.

Rajya Sabha MP and AAP leader Swati Maliwal has launched an “expose campaign,” openly criticising AAP-led Delhi government on several issues, particularly concerning water quality in Dwarka area.

What Swati Maliwal said

Swati Maliwal visited the home of a retired army officer in Dwarka, where she pointed out serious problems with the water supply. She highlighted that for months, residents have been dealing with foul-smelling and discoloured water.

In a video posted on X, Maliwal was seen drawing black water from a tap, visibly disturbed by its poor quality. Accompanying the video, Maliwal shared a caption describing the situation, stating, “I just came to the house of a retired army officer of Dwarka assembly, dirty smelly water has been coming in the entire area for months.”

Taking a direct jab at Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Maliwal’s post criticised the government for failing to ensure clean water. She claimed that, while the Chief Minister enjoys a safe supply of water, residents in other parts of Delhi are left with filthy water.

In a pointed comment, Maliwal sarcastically said that the CM had “received Coca-Cola directly from the tap” for Diwali, but many other families’ celebrations were ruined. Maliwal said that she intends to present this water to the Chief Minister as a “Diwali gift,” urging her to see firsthand the struggles faced by Delhi’s residents.

In her video, Maliwal goes on to interact with the retired army officer, who confirms the ongoing issue and explains that he has tried to address it by filing complaints with various authorities. Frustrated with the lack of response, he shared his dissatisfaction with the local leadership, including the area’s MLAs, who have reportedly done little to address the residents’ concerns.

Standing with residents, Maliwal expressed her outrage, describing the situation as an injustice to the people. “This is the Delhi government’s scheme to send Coca-Cola directly from the tap,” she said.

According to Maliwal, it is unacceptable for citizens to receive such poor-quality water while significant sums of money are reportedly allocated for sanitation. She suggested that Rs 15 crore had been spent to maintain clean water in private government facilities, while the public struggles with contaminated water.

Further, Maliwal demanded accountability from CM Atishi, suggesting that the Chief Minister should use this black water for daily needs as an act of responsibility. She asserted that this would “wash away her sins” and emphasised that clean water is a basic right for Delhi’s citizens. Local residents present during the visit voiced similar concerns, adding that repeated complaints to local authorities had gone unheard, which only intensified Maliwal’s criticism of AAP’s governance.

Maliwal’s remarks did not stop at the water issue. She raised other grievances, saying that the government has failed to maintain basic infrastructure like roads, leaving garbage piles to accumulate across several areas. “The government has left the people to die,” she claimed, highlighting how, in her view, AAP’s governance has not fulfilled its promises of improved living conditions in Delhi.
