Child critically injured after stray dogs attack him in Maharashtra village, locals call for swift action

New Delhi: A pack of stray dogs attacked a small child, leaving him seriously injured, in Bhilali village of Amalner tehsil in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district.

The child has been admitted to a government hospital and is under treatment. Stray dogs have created panic and fear among children, women, and the elderly in the area. Local villagers have submitted a memorandum to the Gram Panchayat, demanding immediate action to control the stray dog menace.

The same month in Goa, a toddler was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in the Ponda area. The deceased, 20-month-old Anabia Shaikh, had been staying at her maternal uncle’s house in Durgabhat in Ponda. On April 19, around 7.45 am, she went out of the house while playing and was attacked by a pack of stray dogs. The girl sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a sub-district hospital in Ponda, where she was declared brought dead.

In Shimla too, the menace is growing with residents demanding effective action by the Municipal Corporation. The city is recording around 150 dog bite cases each month, and the fear and frustration is growing among locals.
