The Supreme Court is seized of a bunch of pleas on the issue of criminalising marital rape and challenging the constitutionality of the exception to marital rape. The top court had earlier sought the response of the Centre on the issue.

New Delhi: The Centre has opposed criminalisation of marital rape before the Supreme Court, saying that if the marital rape is criminalised, it may seriously impact the conjugal relationship and lead to serious disturbances in the institution of marriage

The Supreme Court is seized of a bunch of pleas on the issue of criminalising marital rape and challenging the constitutionality of the exception to marital rape.

The top court had earlier sought the response of the Centre on the issue.
