Caught on Cam: Tyre explosion sends mechanic flying in Karnataka’s Udupi

New Delhi: A 19-year-old mechanic was severely injured after a bus tyre exploded while he was repairing it in Karnataka’s Udupi district. The dramatic incident was captured on CCTV footage and is now being circulated widely on social media.

The accident occurred on December 21st at a roadside tyre shop situated along National Highway 66 near Koteshwar. The CCTV footage shows the young mechanic, identified as Abdul Rajid, working on a flat tyre belonging to a private school bus. He is seen in the process of inflating a large bus tyre using an air compressor.

Suddenly, with a deafening bang, the tyre explodes, sending Rajid several feet into the air. The force of the blast is clearly evident in the video; the tyre’s sudden decompression propels Rajid violently backwards.

The video also shows a school bus parked near the shop, its tyres apparently undergoing maintenance. The immediate aftermath of the explosion is not explicitly shown in the available footage, but it’s clear from the violent ejection of the mechanic that the impact was significant.

Following the incident, Rajid was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries is currently unknown but the footage strongly suggests the potential for serious harm.
