‘Cannot tolerate such things’: Tejashwi Yadav reacts to brother Tej Pratap’s expulsion from RJD

Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav reacted to expulsion of his brother Tej Pratap from the party. The former Deputy CM of Bihar said that Pratap is an adult and has the right to make his own decisions. But he said that his father’s decision to expel him was correct and the party was not ready to tolerate such things.

Lalu Yadav expels son from party, removes him from family

Lalu Yadav had earlier on Sunday expelled his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav from the RJD and also cut ties with him. The decision followed a controversy over a Facebook post made from the young leader’s account. The post had a picture of Tej Pratap Yadav, with a young lady and said that the 2 were in a relationship for 12 years.

Though the post was later deleted and Tej Pratap claimed that his Facebook account had been hacked, Lalu Prasad Yadav expelled him from the party. Lalu said that the party cannot ignore “moral values”.

The senior Bihar leader in a post on ‘X’ derided his son for his acts. He said, “Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens our collective struggle for social justice. The activities, public conduct and irresponsible behaviour of the eldest son are not in accordance with our family values and traditions.”

Pratap’s younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav has supported his father’s decision. Talking to media persons, he said, “We cannot tolerate such things, we are working and are dedicated to the people of Bihar. If it’s about my big brother, political life and personal life are different. He has the right to make his personal decisions. He is an adult and free to make decisions. Our party’s chief has made it clear, and ever since he has said so, it is his feelings. We didn’t question such things… What he is doing in his personal life, nobody asks before doing anything. I have come to know about it via the media only.”

Tej Pratap Yadav’s expulsion comes just months ahead of the Assembly Elections in Bihar. The post by Tej Pratap Yadav left the party red faced and his expulsion can be seen as a face-saving exercise. Earlier also several antics by the elder son of Lalu Prasad Yadav has left the party embarrassed. Tejashwi Yadav is seen as the designated heir to Lalu Prasad’s political legacy.

The Facebook post, which was later deleted, claimed that Tej Pratap Yadav had been in a relationship with a woman, identified as Anushka Yadav, for the past 12 years. The text accompanying the photo read, “I am Tej Pratap Yadav and the girl who is seen with me in this picture is Anushka Yadav. We both have known each other for the last 12 years and love each other deeply. We have been in a relationship throughout these years. I wanted to share this with all of you for a long time, but couldn’t find the right words. Today, through this post, I am opening my heart to you. I hope you all will understand.”

As soon as the post went viral, people started trolling and criticising Tej Pratap Yadav. This was so because he got married in 2018, and according to his social media post, he was in a relationship with Anushka Yadav at that time as well.
