‘Cannot postpone exams’: Telangana HC dismisses petitions of group-1 candidates

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court on Friday dismissed two writ appeals on Public Service Commission Group-1 main exam, filed by Group-1 candidates.

The dismissal paved the way for exams to be held from October 21 to fill up 563 posts as the judgment of the single bench was upheld by the division bench of the High Court.

Reading the verdict, the HC said that they cannot give orders to postpone exams at this time as many unemployed people are waiting for exams. “Many people have already committed suicide due to unemployment. Due to paper leakage, earlier 5 lakh people applied, only 3 lakh people wrote. That means 2 lakh unemployed people did not apply from frustration.”

Last minute cancellation of mains exams is not possible. Why should lakhs of people suffer for 8 petitioners?, the court said.

The students on Thursday said that the government is ‘stubbornly’ going ahead with the exam though there are 22 cases pending in courts.

About 31,383 candidates are appearing for the Group-1 mains examinations at 46 centers in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medchal-Malkajigiri districts between October 21-27.

Group-1 candidates approach Supreme Court:

Earlier on Friday, the candidates approached Supreme Court seeking cancellation of GO-29 issued by the state government on February 8, amending GO 55 issued in 2022 regarding reservations for disabled persons.
