New Delhi: The Border Security Force (BSF) has proposed the naming of a border post in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba sector as “Sindoor”, commemorating the success of Operation Sindoor. It is being proposed to honour the courage and spirit of the forces, especially women officers who displayed immense courage and strength in the operation.
Operation Sindoor was launched in response to a terror attack on Pahalgam, leading to a decisive counter offences by the BSF. During this operation, several terror launch pads were successfully destroyed that impaired the enemy’s infiltration capacities.
The indomitable spirit of women soldiers
Inspector General (Jammu sector) Shashank Anand highlighted the exceptional courage displayed by women during the entire operation. Officers such as Assistant Commandant Neha Bhandari and constables Manjeet Kaur, Sumi, Malkit Kaur, Jyoti Sampa and Sapna chose to remain at forward duty posts despite heavy firing. “They gave a befitting reply”, Anand remarked. It further forced the enemy personnel leaving their positions, according to a report of Hindustan Times.
Assistant Commandant Neha Bhandari recalled the intensity of this engagement : “If they fired at us once, we fired at them twice. We fired flat trajectory, high trajectory at their posts and forced them to run. Their surveillance equipment was broken.”
BSF also proposes renaming of RS Pura Sector
The BSF also plans to honour two of its bravehearts, who were killed during the operation by naming the RS Pura sector after them. Sub-inspector Mohammad Imtiyaz and Constable Deepak Chingakham lost their lives on May 10 during cross border shellings and firing at the drones. Their sacrifice, along with an army man, Naik Sunil Kumar who also lost their life in the incident, is being recognised through this initiative.
The proposal to rename the Samba sector post as “Sindoor” and RS Pura sector post in honour of the soldiers who sacrificed themselves for the nation has been submitted to the BSF headquarters for approval.
