Ahmedabad: The Border Security Force on Friday night shot dead a Pakistani intruder at the international border in Gujarat. The man was reportedly trying to cross over into India in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district.
BSF statement on intrusion attempt
The BSF in an official statement gave details about the infiltration bid and how it was foiled. According to it, the troops spotted a suspicious individual approaching the border fence after crossing the International Border. The intruder did not heed to warning by the Indian troops to retreat and continued walking towards the Indian side.
This forced the troops to fire. The man was neutralised on the spot, said the BSF.
The incident comes at a time when security has been tightened along the India-Pakistan border, after India conducted airstrikes hitting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The air strikes code named ‘Operation Sindoor’ came after terrorists shot and killed 26 tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 and aimed at flushing out terrorists from Pakistan and PoK. The operation led to a counter attack by Pakistan, but all attempts at sending in drones and striking Indian territory using missiles were neutralised by the Indian armed forces. The two countries saw tensions grow but finally good sense prevailed and a ceasefire was declared. India however has said that ‘Operation Sindoor’ is not over yet.
India remains on high alert and several encounters have been reported from Jammu and Kashmir. Here the Army has neutralised several terrorists when they sneaked into Indian territory and engaged in gun battles with the Army and police force.
