New Delhi: BSF constable Purnam Kumar Shaw, who had been in the custody of Pakistan Rangers since April 23, was handed over to Indian authorities on Wednesday morning. The exchange took place at around 10.30am at the Joint Check Post in Attari in Amritsar. It was peaceful handover, following established protocols, the Border Security Force (BSF) said in a statement.
Shaw, a resident of West Bengal, is currently being debriefed by security officials.
Exchange after reciprocal detention
This exchange followed a reciprocal detention — while Shaw had been held by Pakistan, the BSF had apprehended a Pakistan Rangers personnel, who was reportedly returned as part of the understanding between both sides.
BSF PRO confirmed the development, stating, “Today BSF Jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw… was handed over to India at about 1030 hours through the Joint Check Post Attari, Amritsar. The handover was conducted peacefully and in accordance with established protocols.”
