New Delhi: A British F-35B Lightning II fighter jet made an emergency landing at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on Saturday night. The emergency landing was reportedly carried out as the jet ran low on fuel during a sortie over the Indian Ocean. The aircraft is currently parked at the airport.
News agency PTI reported, citing source, that the jet, which is believed to have taken off from an aircraft carrier, landed safely at around 9.30 pm. “The pilot reported low fuel and asked for permission to land. Everything was handled quickly and professionally,” the source told PTI.
Refuelling will be carried out once the necessary approval is received from the relevant Central government authorities. Once refuelling is complete and all systems are inspected, the jet is expected to receive clearance to resume its journey.
According to sources, the fighter jet belongs to the UK Royal Navy and was likely on a transit or training mission when it faced a fuel emergency. The situation was managed smoothly by both Indian and British teams.
