Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will organise a Tiranga Yatra in Bengaluru on May 14 to celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
The yatra aims to show support for the armed forces who, according to BJP leaders, dealt a strong blow to terrorism and its supporters in Pakistan.
Yatra to be held across Karnataka
According to BJP leaders, the yatra in Bengaluru will begin at 11 am, starting from Shiruru Park to 18th Cross on Sampige Road in Malleswaram. The yatra will continue in district centres on May 16 and 17, and later in taluk centres between May 18 and 23.
Importantly, BJP leaders clarified that the Tiranga Yatra will not feature party flags or symbols. Only the national flag will be used. Leaders have urged the public to join the yatra in large numbers to honour the efforts of the armed forces.
Leaders appeal for public participation
State BJP President BY Vijayendra, speaking in Shivamogga, encouraged participation from ex-servicemen, farmers, doctors, and citizens from all backgrounds. He announced that the yatra will be held on May 15 in Mangaluru, Belagavi, and Ballari, while dates for other districts will be announced soon.
When asked about criticism from Congress leaders, especially Priyank Kharge, who claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed directions from US President Donald Trump, Vijayendra dismissed the claim. He said, “The central government and PM Modi will reply to Trump’s statement. The PM has already made it clear – every terrorist attack will be treated as an act of war. This ceasefire is not permanent.”
On claims that PM Modi is taking full credit for Operation Sindoor, he replied, “The Prime Minister has already appreciated the role of our defence personnel. Credit will go to them.”
BJP leaders defend Centre’s stand
R Ashoka, Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, said the yatra is a way to salute the courage of soldiers. He said that over 100 terrorists were killed and terror camps were destroyed during Operation Sindoor, which made Pakistan request a ceasefire.
He criticised Congress for questioning the government instead of supporting the army and clarified that BJP is not raising past issues such as PoK or the Mumbai attack response. He said, “This is not the time to compare today’s actions with those from the past. The present focus should be on our soldiers.”
