New Delhi: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday alleged that Sanket Bawankule, the son of Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, had beef cutlet at a Nagpur bar before the accident involving his luxury Audi car. However, police refuted the claim and said that he only consumed mutton and chicken dishes.
Sanket’s car rammed into several vehicles in Ramdaspeth area in Nagpur in the early hours of Monday, leaving two people injured. Though he was present in the car but he was not driving it, according to police.
What police said on Sanjay Raut’s claim
Police clarified that BJP leader’s son did not order beef at a city-based bar but he had consumed liquor along with some mutton and chicken dishes there. Citing the food bill, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-II) Rahul Madne said that no beef was served to Sanket and his friends at the bar.
Another police official said that Sanket and his friends had ordered mutton roast, mutton curry, chicken tikka along with some vegetarian items like masala peanuts and fried cashews at La Horee bar in Dharampeth area of the city. “They also ordered two liquor bottles worth over Rs 12,000,” the official was quoted as saying by PTI.
Political row over Audi hit-and-run case
Sanket found himself embroiled in a controversy following the accident involving his high-end car. A case of rash driving and other offences was registered following the accident and the driver of the car, Arjun Hawre, was arrested on Monday night. He was later released on bail.
The accident also triggered political controversy ahead of the Assembly polls with the Opposition alleging that attempts were being made to save the senior politician’s kin by pinning the blame on the driver for the accident.
