New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to launch a nationwide 11-day ‘Tiranga Yatra’ starting today, aimed at showcasing the success of Operation Sindoor The campaign, which will run till May 23, seeks to rally national sentiment around the Modi government’s response to terrorism and to honour the armed forces.
According to reports, the Tiranga Yatra will be carried out under a neutral, non-partisan banner focusing on patriotism and national pride. Participation from citizens, social organisations, and prominent public figures is expected.
Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor was carried out in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The Indian armed forces targeted and destroyed nine terror camps in just 23 minutes on the intervening night of May 6 and 7. All pilots returned safely, and the forces made it clear that no civilian infrastructure was targeted. According to BJP leaders, the operation has set a “new normal” in country’s counter-terrorism approach.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “This is not just a military success but a moment of national unity. Our armed forces displayed unmatched courage, and India has shown that no terror base is beyond our reach.”
A nationwide outreach
Party president JP Nadda, along with senior Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, reportedly held high-level meetings over the weekend to finalise the campaign. BJP general secretaries Tarun Chugh, Vinod Tawde, and Dushyant Gautam will be coordinating the initiative. Senior BJP leaders and Union ministers will lead processions in various parts of the country.
The yatra came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national address on Monday, in which he talked about country’s commitment to fight terrorism with full strength. “Operation Sindoor is our policy against terror. If there is an attack on India, we will strike back. There is no distinction between a government that shelters terror and the terrorists themselves,” he declared.
