BJP demands action after temple vandalised in Birbhum, condemns WB minister’s remarks

Kolkata: A Hindu temple was vandalised and the idol of Lord Hanuman in it defaced by unidentified miscreants in Birbhum district of West Bengal, the BJP claimed on Friday while slamming the state police over its “reluctance” in taking action against the culprits.

In a post on X, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari shared a video of the Lord Hanuman Temple at Indragachha More, of Purandarpur Gram Panchayat in Birbhum. The video purportedly showed the temple’s premises vandalised and a desecrated idol. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday night

“Last night miscreants vandalised the Lord Hanuman Temple at Indragachha More, Purandarpur Gram Panchayat, Siuri – II Block, Birbhum District. They even desecrated Bajrangbali’s Idol. Vandalism in Hindu Temples have now become an alarming trend in West Bengal,” Adhikari wrote in the post.

He urged the West Bengal Police DGP Rajeev Kumar to arrest those behind the act while calling out the police’s “continuous reluctance” in taking action against miscreants who vandalise “Sanatani temples” and that it has given them courage to commit such acts repeatedly.

“These criminals should be punished approximately as per the provisions of law so that it deters other miscreants in the future,” he added.
BJP’s national IT depth chief Amit Malviya also shared vandalism incident video while attacking the TMC and state minister  Siddiqulla Chowdhury for his alleged remarks in Kolkata on Thursday that pushed West Bengal into “unrest”.
“Mamata Banerjee’s minister, Siddiqulla Chowdhury, made incendiary threats of arson in Kolkata yesterday, pushing West Bengal toward a state of unrest reminiscent of the Great Calcutta Killings. In Siuri’s Indragacha village, a decades-old Hanuman Mandir and its idol were desecrated. However, the Bengal Police have shown indifference, as such incidents seemingly do not align with the priorities of the TMC’s vote bank.,” he said.
