‘90% of Dalits, OBCs do not hold higher positions’: Gandhi

The Congress leader argued that the caste census would reveal the exact number of individuals from backward classes, extremely backward classes, and Dalit communities in the country. He emphasised that the census would help determine whether these communities are adequately represented in jobs. Gandhi claimed that 90% of the population of Dalits, OBCs do not hold higher positions. He also highlighted the severe lack of employment opportunities in Bihar, which compels many to seek jobs in other states.

The Congress leader remarked that since beginning of his political career in 2004, he has observed a bias in loan waivers, where big business tycoons are granted massive loan waivers, while the loans of poor Dalits, tribals, and backward communities were scrutinized and rarely waived.

‘Bihar showed the path to the whole world’

During his speech, Rahul Gandhi said Rajgir was once known as the land of truth, non-violence, and justice. “Today, it is known as the crime capital of Bihar. The condition of the state has deteriorated significantly,” he said.

He noted that modern discussions often highlight Japan and Korea, yet the philosophical foundation of their thought can be traced back to Bihar. “This is the true legacy of Bihar—the heritage of truth and justice that once influenced the world. Sadly, the current government has forgotten this,” Gandhi stated.

He concluded by saying that Bihar had once shown the path not only to India but to the entire world. However, today, due to a lack of employment, its people are forced to migrate to other states.
