Bihar’s Nalanda faces flood threat as Falgu River swells, water enters homes and streets

Nalanda: Flood-like conditions have developed in many parts of Bihar’s Nalanda district, forcing people to leave their homes and take shelter in temporary camps. The situation worsened after heavy rainfall in neighboring Jharkhand caused the Falgu river to swell suddenly. As the water level in the river rose sharply, parts of some small dams were damaged, creating panic and fear among residents.

According to Bihar’s Disaster Management Department, the crisis began on June 19 when 73,000 cusecs of water were released from the Uderasthan barrage in Jehanabad. The sudden release of such a large amount of water led to breaches in smaller dams in the region. As a result, several areas in the blocks of Hilsa, Karaiparsurai, and Ekangarsarai have been affected by floodwaters.

Water from the Falgu river has entered many villages, submerging roads and homes. People in these areas had to quickly evacuate and are now living in temporary tents set up by the government. The district administration, along with disaster response teams, is providing relief materials such as food packets and clean drinking water to those affected.

The government has deployed two teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to monitor and assist in rescue operations. These teams are keeping a close watch on the situation and are ready to help anyone in need. Relief work is ongoing to ensure that people staying in camps get all necessary help.

Among the worst-hit areas is Beldari Bigha village in Ekangarsarai block, where water has entered homes and people are facing serious difficulties.
