Bhumi pujan of Ram Mandir replica in Murshidabad today; TMC MLA vows to build mosque

Kolkata: An eight-inch Ram Lalla statue, crafted from “ashtadhatu” (made from eight metals) and originating from the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, is ready as preparations are underway for the bhumi pujan of a Ram Mandir replica on Wednesday in West Bengal’s Murshidabad.

This comes with TMC MLA Humayun Kabir also announcing plans to construct a replica of the Babri Masjid in the same district.

The Bongiyo Ram Sevak Parishad Charitable Trust, the organiser, has clarified that the statue to be permanently installed in the temple will be “larger, different,” and more aligned with Bengali traditions, Indian Express reported.

Trust chief Ambikananda Maharaj said they have got a Ram Lalla from the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham religious site in Tamil Nadu and will go on with bhumi pujan on Wednesday, January 22.

The idol is eight inches tall and reflects Lord Ram as a young boy.

“However, the idol placed in the temple, once finished, will be different. There will be three layers in the temple. On the topmost layer will be the idol of Ram worshipping Maa Durga signifying Akal Bodhon (worship of Durga in the month of Ashvin). There will be another idol of Sri Ram, with Sita Devi, Lakshman, and Hanuman among others at the second layer.”

“Though the structure will be exactly like the one in Ayodhya, the idols will reflect Bengal’s culture. Bengali icons and luminaries will be represented on the walls of the temple. We will invite all political party leaders and even the Chief Minister for the Bhumi Pujan,” he said.

The trust stated that it has identified and is in the process of finalising approximately 28 to 30 bighas of donated land in Murshidabad.

Meanwhile, TMC MLA Humayun Kabir earlier said that a trust for the construction of a mosque would be established in February, with the foundation stone to be laid on 6 December—the anniversary of the day in 1992 when the Babri Mosque in Ayodhya was demolished by kar sevaks, the report added.
