RCB team’s IPL victory celebrations near the Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bengaluru turned tragic on Wednesday morning as 11 people were killed and 33 others were left injured after a stampede. The victims included a 13-year-old girl who had just begun a new academic year as a class 9 student, and a new joinee at a multinational technology firm in Bengaluru.

The victims had gathered outside the Stadium in Bengaluru along with their friends and family members to celebrate the long-eluded title victory of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), which won the IPL trophy after 18 years. Most of them were Bengaluru residents but some had come from other districts as well.

Teen vicitm’s grandfather advised her not to go

The maternal grandfather of a 14-year-old girl from Yelahanka – one of the teen victims- said that he had advised her against going to the stadium to watch the RCB victory celebrations. Like other RCB fans, Divyanshi, who was fondly called as Dimple at home, had gone to witness the celebrations along with her mother, aunt and grandaunt.

“My daughter (Dimple’s mother) told me they wanted to see the RCB victory celebrations,” the girl’s maternal grandfather Lakshminarayan was quoted as saying by PTI. He said that he intially asked them not to go but later advised them to be safe and cautious. “Little did we reckon that Dimple’s life would be cut short so suddenly, so brutally and so tragically,” he added.

All victims below 40 years

The victims have been identified AS Divyanshi (13), Doresha (32), Bhoomik (20), Sahana (25), Akshata (27), Manoj (33), Shravan (20), Devi (29), Shivalinga (17) and Chinmayi (19) and Prajwal (20).
