Badrinath: Amidst divine chants and an atmosphere filled with devotion, the sacred doors of Shri Badrinath Dham were ceremoniously opened today, marking the beginning of another pilgrimage season.
On the auspicious occasion of Ravi Pushya Lagna, thousands of devotees from across India and beyond gathered to witness the grand ritual, filling the temple premises with prayers and chants of “Jai Badri Vishal”.
A grand opening with rituals and flower showers
The highly anticipated moment arrived at 6 a.m., when the sanctum doors of Badrinath Dham were opened. As the temple gates swung open, an overwhelming wave of devotion and spirituality swept through the crowd. Flower showers from a helicopter added to the magnificence, blessing pilgrims as they embarked on their sacred journey to seek Lord Badri Vishal’s divine darshan.
At the heart of the event was the Akhand Jyoti, a sacred flame that had been burning inside the temple for the past six months. Pilgrims eagerly lined up to witness it, considering it a symbol of uninterrupted faith and devotion. Officials estimate that over 10,000 devotees have already arrived for the darshan, with numbers expected to rise steadily in the coming days.
Chief Minister Dhami offers prayers
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was present at the auspicious occasion, personally taking part in prayers at Badri Vishal temple. CM Dhami extended his blessings and best wishes to all devotees present, underscoring the state government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and spiritually enriching pilgrimage.
The temple committee and administration worked tirelessly to enhance arrangements for the Chardham Yatra 2025, ensuring better facilities and seamless travel experiences for devotees reaching the sacred Himalayan shrine.
Temple decorated with 40 quintals of marigold flowers
Adding to the grandeur of the occasion, the Badrinath temple was beautifully adorned with 40 quintals of marigold flowers, creating an awe-inspiring sight. The vibrant floral decorations illuminated the temple premises, creating a divine atmosphere and enhancing the spiritual experience for devotees.
The temple management, in collaboration with floral artists, ensured that the decorations reflected the sanctity and auspiciousness of the event. This tradition of elaborate floral adornments has become a hallmark of Badrinath’s annual temple opening ceremony, signifying devotion, purity, and reverence.
Chamoli administration’s initiative: A polythene-free pilgrimage
In a significant environmental initiative, the Chamoli district administration has declared that the Badrinath pilgrimage will be polythene-free this year. District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari has urged hotel and dhaba operators along the pilgrimage route to minimize polythene usage, contributing to cleaner and more sustainable travel.
Additionally, hotel owners in Karnprayag, Gauchar, Nandprayag, Pipalkoti, Jyotirmath, Govindghat, and Pandukeshwar have been instructed to maintain proper cleanliness, paste rate lists prominently, and ensure fire safety measures. This initiative aligns with efforts to promote eco-friendly tourism and preserve Uttarakhand’s fragile Himalayan ecosystem.
