New Delhi: All eyes are on Maharashtra Assembly elections results the counting for which starts at 8 in the morning on Saturday. 288 seats are up for grabs and the two grand alliances in Maharashtra are vying to form government.
Most of the exit polls have given a comfortable majority to Mahayuti alliance comprising of BJP, NCP (Ajit Pawar), Shiv Sena (Shinde). While the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) trails in the exit polls. The magic number to form the government in Maharashtra is 145.
The voting for the polls took place on November 20 in the single phase. The election results will be interesting to see keeping in view the breakup of Shiv Sena and NCP by Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. How the factions of two leaders fare in the polls will decide their credibility in future.
Region wise seats in Maharashtra
Marathwada region
In Marathwada region, there are eight districts including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Hingoli, Jalna, Latur, Nanded, Osmanabad and Parbhani. There are 46 seats in total in this region.
During this election, 20 of the 46 seats recorded over 70 per cent polling, the official figures stated.
Vidarbha region
Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region is situated in the eastern part of the state. The region comprises 11 districts and 62 assembly seats. Some of the districts in Vidarbha region come under the Maoist belt including Gadchiroli. For decades, politicians have indulged in slugfest over insufficient development in the region. Once, the region was also known for farmers’ suicide.
Seats in Metropolitan Mumbai and Pune
The contest is also tough in Mumbai district with a total of 36 seats. Here the two factions of Shiv Sena- Uddhav (UBT) and Eknath Shidne- will be in direct fights.
While the Pune district has 21 assembly seats in total.
