‘Arun Jaitley threatened me during farm laws protest’: Rahul Gandhi at party workers meet

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi delivered a powerful address to party workers, sharply criticising the Modi government’s policies and actions. His speech, coming on the heels of his comments in Parliament on “Operation Sindoor,” escalated the political tension between the Congress and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Rahul said that the BJP is not only attacking the Constitution but on India’s very essence. He shared an anecdote involving a threat from the then Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley during his opposition to the farm laws. Rahul Gandhi said, “Arun Jati was sent to threaten me. Jaitly said, You know, if you carry on down this path, opposing the government, fighting us on the farm laws, we will have to act against you.”

“I looked at him and said, I don’t think you know who you’re talking to. I don’t think you have an idea who you’re talking to because we are Congress people. We’re not cowards. We’re not going to bend. The British couldn’t bend us. The superpower couldn’t bend us. Who the hell are you?” Gandhi added.

Showing the handbook of the Constitution of India, Rahul said that it embodies India’s history, culture, and traditions, which were central to his argument. He invoked figures like Buddha, Narayan Guru, Basavanna, Ambedkar, and Periyar to underscore the rich tapestry of Indian thought and philosophy that, he claims, is under threat. Gandhi concluded by stating his resolve to continue his opposition, even if it meant facing consequences, comparing the situation to “playing with fire.”
