Aligarh man arrested in Pakistan after crossing border to meet Facebook lover

New Delhi: When it seemed that the trend of crossing international borders for love was fading, a man from Uttar Prdesh’s Aligarh revived it. Badal Babu has been arrested in Pakistan for illegally entering the country to meet a woman. He was arrested on December 30 from Bahauddin by Punjab police.

According to reports, Babu admitted before the cops of crossing the border without legal documentation. He failed to produce a visa or any authorised permit during questioning. A case has been registered against him under the Foreigners Act, 1946.

Badal Babu in police custody for 14 days

Sub-Inspector Ghulam Raza lodged the formal complaint after which Badal Babu was formally arrested. The cops appeared him before a local court the following day and he was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. He is scheduled to reappear in court on January 10, 2025.

During preliminary interrogation, Badal Babu said that he was in love with a Pakistani woman, whom he met through Facebook. He had tried to cross the border on two previous attempts too but was not successful. However, on his third attempt, he managed to enter Pakistan and meet the woman in Mandi Bahauddin.

Authorities are now investigating the circumstances and intent behind his illegal entry and stay in Pakistan. Police are also scrutinising his movements and any potential security concerns related to the incident.
