‘Alarming’: Lawrence Bishnoi T-shirts for sale on Meesho & Flipkart; slammed online

Bengaluru: Online platforms Meesho, Flipkart and Teeshopper faced severe backlash after they were found to be selling Lawrence Bishnoi hero T-shirts online. An X user questioned the companies and claimed such types of merchandise were promoting “online radicalisation”. Netizens also carried a similar sentiment. Following the viral post, Meesho released an official statement.

Alishan Jafri, an X user, brought out the issue through a post. Sharing pictures of the Lawrence Bishnoi T-shirts, available for both adults and kids, he wrote, “People are literally selling gangster merchandise on platforms like @Meesho_Official and Teeshopper. This is just one example of India’s latest online radicalisation.” Further, the X user accused social media influencers were minting money by promoting gang content. Jafri also listed criminal cases from several parts of the country that were motivated by gangster content.

The post garnered the attention of many online. Many thanked Jafri for highlighting the issue. Others called it “alarming” and asked the online sites to take responsibility for their actions. “This should be stopped, we can’t encourage the younger generation to think of this gangster as heroes,” wrote one. Another commented, “So Meesho loves gangsters & promotes them on kids aparels. Wow!!! Then why do we blame Adani who inflates his invoices …” Similar T-shirts for sale on Flipkart.
Following the criticisms online, Meesho released a statement addressing the issue. They stated, “We have taken immediate action to deactivate the products. Meesho remains committed to providing a safe and trusted shopping platform for all our users.”
