Air India suspends 8 flights due to operational reasons

New Delhi: Air India has suspended at least 8 flights from various cities on Friday. The suspended flights included both planes flying on both national and international routes. The airlines said in a statement that the flights had been cancelled due to operational and maintenance reasons. This is the second straight day of cancellations of Air India flights.

Flights cancelled by Air India on Friday

The international flights suspended by Air India on Friday included, Dubai-Chennai flight AI-906, Delhi-Melbourne flight AI-308, Melbourne-Delhi flight AI-309, Dubai-Hyderabad AI- 2204. Apart from these international flights the airlines also cancelled several flights on the domestic routes.

The domestic flights cancelled by the airlines include Pune-Delhi flight AI-874, Ahmedabad-Delhi flight AI-456, Hyderabad-Mumbai flight AI- 2872 and Chennai-Mumbai flight AI-571.

Earlier on Thursday, the airlines had announced curtailing flights on at least 20 routes, between June 21 to July 15. Some of the flights which were suspended on Friday included, the Delhi to Nairobi, Amritsar to London Gatwick, and Goa (Mopa) to London Gatwick. The Delhi-Nairobi flights are curtailed till July 30, while the others will not operate till July 15.

The flight suspensions came amidst heightened security checks in Air India’s Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft, following the fatal air crash on the London bound flight from Ahmedabad. The crash which killed 241 passengers and left many people on the ground dead, has led to enhanced security checks on the planes owned by the company.

Air India expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the passengers following the rapid cancellation of flights. It said that they are contacting customers affected by the move and discussing with them if they want a full refund or want to be adjusted on other flights.
