New Delhi: The London-bound Air India plane crashed within 50 seconds, said the government in the first press briefing post the tragedy. Speaking at the presser, the Civil Aviation Minister, Ram Mohan Naidu paid tributes to the victims of the crash on behalf of his Ministry and the government.

The Civil Aviation Ministry said that the Air India plane took off from Ahmedabad airport, after following all necessary protocols. However it started descending at 650 feet, soon after leaving the ground. The pilot of the plane gave a Mayday call soon after takeoff, they said.
The Ministry also confirmed that the black box of the flight had been recovered. They have also found the flight data recorder from the crash site. A probe to determine the possible causes of the aircrash is underway. Experts are trying to decode the data of the black box, said the Union Minister of Civil Aviation.
The government is set to form a high level committee to probe the matter, said Naidu.
