Ahmedabad: A day after the deadly Air India plane crash in which 241 passengers lost their lives near Ahmedabad plane crash, the Gujarat ATS on Friday recovered a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) from the accident site.

Shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, the plane crashed into a locality leading to the disaster. Only one passenger survived the deadly incident. Speaking to the news agency ANI, an official said, “It’s a DVR, which we have recovered from the debris. The FSL team will come here soon.”

Of the total passengers who were lost, there were 169 Indians, 53 British, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals, apart from 12 crew members.

Air India flight reached altitude of 625 feet before disaster

Following the air crash, the Air Traffic Control (ATC) said the aircraft departed from the Ahmedabad airport at 1:39 pm. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot of the aircraft issued a Mayday call, signaling a critical emergency. However, the crew could not respond to subsequent ATC communications, and moments later it crashed in a dense locality.

According to the data shared by Flightradar24, the twin-engine Boeing 787 reached an altitude of 625 feet before the terrible disaster. The aircraft was under the command of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar. While Captain Sumeet Sabharwal had 8,200 hours of flying experience, the co-pilot had 1,100 hours of experience in flying.

Among those who lost their lives in the tragedy was Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani who was going to London to bring back his wife. Before becoming the chief minister, he also served in various capacities, including Minister in the state and Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.
