New Delhi: In wake of the tragic crash of Air India flight AI 171 shortly after take-off from sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, both India and UK Government have issued helpline numbers, as also the Air India.
Earlier in the day, AI 171 was carrying passengers from London. It crashed moments after takeoff from SVPI airport. There were 242 passengers on board including 10 crew members and 2 pilots. The airport remains temporarily shut with all the flight operations suspended.
India’s premium airline has issued a dedicated passenger assistance hotline 1800 5691 444, to provide the necessary support and information. The flight was en route to London Gatwick airport.
Condoling the incident, The UK government, also issued a statement saying, “We are aware of a plane crash in Ahmedabad. The UK is working with local authorities in India to urgently establish the facts and provide support to those involved.” British nationals requiring assistance have been adviced to call UK Foreign Office helpline at 020 7008 5000.
Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu is enroute to Ahmedabad to take stock of the situation.
