New Delhi: The aftermath of the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad continues to unfold, marked by both the announcement of substantial compensation and the ongoing process of victim identification. Air India has announced an interim payment of Rs 25 lakh to the families of each victim and the lone survivor. An independent investigation into the cause of the crash is also underway. A high-level panel, led by the Union Home Secretary, will commence its inquiry on Monday. This committee’s mandate extends beyond simply determining the cause of the accident. The panel’s findings will be used to develop and implement new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aimed at improving aviation safety and preventing similar tragedies in the future.
A report detailing the panel’s findings and recommendations is expected within three months. The investigation is expected to thoroughly examine all aspects of the flight operation, including weather conditions, aircraft maintenance, and air traffic control.
