Indian Air Force got its first indigenous Astra missile. It is an air-to-air missile. This missile is fired beyond visual range. This means that even where the pilot cannot see, this missile attacks accurately and causes destruction. Only last year the missile was tested from Tejas fighter aircraft.
According to this, “The Astra weapon system is the best missile in the world in the air-to-air missile category. The range of this missile is more than 100 kilometers.
The Union Minister congratulated BDL for its efforts to realize the production of indigenously developed missile in line with the ‘self-reliant’ policy of the Government of India. He also appreciated the contribution made by BDL in increasing defense exports from the country.
This Astra missile of DRDO can be installed in Sukhoi-30 MKI, MiG 29 and Tejas fighter aircraft. It is also being planned to be installed in Tejas MK2, AMCA and TEDBF fighter aircraft. The Air Force has already expressed confidence in this missile. This missile gives time to escape from enemy attack after firing. This is called stand off range in military language.
This is the specialty of the missile…
It has an optical proximity fuse.
This fuse keeps a complete eye on the target.
The weight of this missile is 154 kg.
The length of this missile is 12.6 feet.
Any explosive can be fitted in this missile.
It can carry up to 15 kg of weapons with itself.
The range of this missile is 160 kilometers.
There are preparations to increase the range of this missile to 350 kilometers.
It reaches a height of 66 thousand feet.
It chases the enemy at a speed of 5556.6 kilometers.
The most important thing is that its target can be changed in the air itself.
