Ahmedabad Air India plane crash: Here’s how world leaders reacted to terrible incident

Ahmedabad: Several world leaders and countries have expressed grief over the tragic planned crash near Gujarat’s Ahmedabad Airport in which several people were feared dead. Earlier in the day, an Air India plane had taken off for London from the airport. Moments later the plane was in a locality.

The number of people who have lost their lives has not yet been announced by the authorities. There were a total of 242 people on the flight. Among them included 10 crew members and 2 pilots.

What world leaders said

Expressing his grief over the incident, Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom took to X and wrote, “The scenes emerging of a London-bound plane carrying many British nationals crashing in the Indian city of Ahmedabad are devastating. I am being kept updated as the situation develops, and my thoughts are with the passengers and their families at this deeply distressing time.”

“We are aware that a flight from Ahmedabad to London has crashed near Ahmedabad airport. We are working with local authorities to urgently establish the facts and provide support. Our thoughts are with all those affected”, the British High Commission posted on X.

Also reacting to the incident, David Lammy, Britain’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs wrote on X, “Deeply saddened by news of a devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad, India. My thoughts are with all those affected. The UK is working with local authorities in India to urgently establish the facts and provide support.”

“Heartbreaking news is coming from Ahmedabad.😢 My heartfelt sympathy to the families and near ones of the victims and to all Indian people and the Government of India over this tragic major catastrophe!”, Denis Alipov, Russian Ambassador to India wrote on X while offering sympathy to the families of the affected people.

Reacting to the X, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, also took to X and wrote, “Europe stands in solidarity with you and the people of India in this moment of sorrow.”

Gideon Sa’ar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel too expressed his shock over the incident and wrote, “Our hearts are with the Indian people following this terrible incident.” There were as many as 169 Indians, and 53 British citizens on the flight.

“Please accept my deepest condolences over the tragic consequences of the plane crash at Ahmedabad Airport. “Please convey my sympathy and support to the families of those killed and my wishes for a swift recovery to those injured in the crash,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his message.
