With the Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) experiencing little success in its 10 years of existence, Aam Aadmi Party relaunched its student wing to strengthen its base among the student community, under the banner of the Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP).

With the launch of ASAP, AAP national convener and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal again beaome active in Delhi politics.”It is a strategic step towards reinvigorating the party’s presence on the ground, especially in Delhi, with former CM Arvind Kejriwal expected to take a visibly active role in state politics,” said a senior party functionary.

“It will be a more assertive and organised version of the party’s youth outreach. With ASAP, AAP aims to build a network of five lakh ‘patriotic’ student volunteers across 50,000 colleges nationwide, positioning the student body as a foundation for alternative politics in India,” he added. The relaunch will also include a social wing within the student organisation, designed to increase student participation in social service and community engagement. ASAP is expected to contest the upcoming Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) elections in Sept this year, signalling a serious foray into campus politics.CYSS, which was launched in Sept 2014, fought student union elections in several universities but could not replicate the success of AAP.
