15 days, 15 actions: How India responded strongly to Pakistan after Pahalgam terror attack

New Delhi: Fifteen days after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, India took 15 strong actions against Pakistan, ranging from diplomatic steps to a surgical strike under Operation Sindoor. These moves put Pakistan under severe pressure both domestically and internationally.

On April 22, Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Following this incident, India promised a strong response – and delivered it step by step.

India’s 15 major actions against Pakistan

  1. Indus Waters Treaty withdrawn: India terminated Indus Waters Treaty, creating a water crisis in Pakistan. Around 170 million people in Pakistan depend on this water.
  2. Trade agreements cancelled: India ended all trade ties and agreements with Pakistan. Indian goods can still enter via Pakistan, but not the other way around, causing heavy financial losses to Pakistan.
  3. Chenab River flow stopped: India also halted the flow of Chenab River water to Pakistan. This has dried up rivers and streams, which Pakistan called a “water attack.”
  4. Diplomatic isolation efforts: India began working to diplomatically isolate Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack. So far, Pakistan has received no open support from major nations.
  5. Import ban on Pakistani goods: India imposed a ban on goods imported from Pakistan like watermelon, rock salt, cement, dry fruits, and steel, increasing economic pressure.
  6. Postal services suspended: For the first time in history, India banned postal services to Pakistan, which was seen as a major diplomatic blow.
  7. Ban on Pakistani ships: India denied entry to Pakistani ships that were using Indian waters to transport goods to Bangladesh.
  8. Military advisers expelled: India expelled all Pakistani military advisers, increasing diplomatic strain between the two countries.
  9. Jhelum water released: India released excess water from the Jhelum River into Pakistan, causing floods in the Muzaffarabad area and forcing people to flee their homes.
  10. Isolated Pakistan at UN: On May 5, at a United Nations meeting, Pakistan failed to get support. Instead, other Security Council members questioned Pakistan’s actions.
  11. No support from Muslim nations: After the Pahalgam attack, India’s PM was in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the terrorist act and Pakistan didn’t receive any public support from Islamic countries.
  12. Briefed diplomats in Delhi: India invited diplomats from various countries to New Delhi to share proof of Pakistan’s terror links, which influenced global perception.
  13. Economic impact on Pakistan: India’s actions led to market instability in Pakistan. The Karachi Stock Exchange saw continuous losses due to rising tensions.
  14. Dams closed at border: India shut the Salal and Baglihar dams near the border, cutting off water supply used by Pakistan for drinking and electricity.
  15. Operation Sindoor: India launched a joint military operation on May 7, targeting 9 terror camps in Pakistan and PoK. Over 100 terrorists were killed.
