New Delhi: As many as 13 people died in a collision between a trailer truck and a truck near Saragaon on Raipur-Balodabazar road in Raipur district, Chhattisgarh, the police said on Monday, as per reports.
Nine women and four children lost their lives in the road accident which took place on late Sunday night. 11 others suffered various injuries.
According to police officials, a family from Chataud village in Dhamtari district travelled to Bansari village to participate in a family function. Upon its return, the truck, in which the family was travelling, collided with a trailer near Saragaon, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kharora police station area.
A police team was immediately sent to the accident spot for rescue operations. Those who suffered injuries were rushed to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital in Raipur. Even the district administration reached the spot.
Raipur district collector Gaurav Singh said that 13 people died and 11 were injured in the accident, as reported by news agency PTI. A case was registered by the police and the matter is being investigated, as per the collector.
Raipur SP Lal Ummed Singh said the tragic incident happened when the truck was returning from Chauthiya Chatti, as reported by news agency ANI.

Following the collision, screams of help followed showing signs of chaos at the spots. Many passengers felt trapped inside the damaged vehicle only for them to be rescued by police and locals, as reported by Jagran.com.
